In Dehn and Barrett's "How to Draw and Print Lithographs," the artist describes his technique:
"After the entire oval area was roughly covered with soft crayon(,) an uneven wash was made by rubbing it with a wet rag. The blacks in the figures were put in with the crayon and then white lines and light greys were drawn with the razor blade" (p. 52)
